This time last year, most of Chad Brown’s friends knew he wasn’t going to be playing in the World Series of Poker. In fact, most people knew he would probably never play poker again. Afflicted with a rare stomach cancer, Brown was in his final days at home, and many people were knocking on his door to say goodbye.

What happened after his death was no less than amazing. Those who hadn’t been able to say goodbye in person traveled to Las Vegas for a memorial service, one that, as you might expect, almost immediately turned into a charity poker tournament. Now, the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer & AIDS Research has announced it is reprising the tournament to keep Brown’s memory alive and serve an important cause in the process.

The event happens Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Hosted by Maria Ho, the event kicks off at 6pm with a silent auction and cocktail hour. The tourney itself will start with a 6:00 p.m. cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a 7:00 p.m. tournament. Proceeds from the tournament will help raise funds for important research by the T.J. Martell Foundation’s Sarcoma Research Projects. These funds will drive clinical trials and new drug discoveries.

“This annual event will always be a celebration of Chad’s life,” Maria Ho said. “Chad touched so many so deeply and this is a way to keep his memory alive.”

Brown was a legend in the poker community, a longtime Team PokerStars Pro, and a friend to the PokerStars Blog. He was a fixture at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which is why PokerStars has put up a 2016 PCA Main Event seat as part of the prize pool. Other prizes include a 2015 WSOP Main Event seat, a WPT seat and VIP package, HPT seat, mentoring with Zen Poker, a PPC Poker Tour Main Event Seat with travel package, $500 credit with WPT Travel, Poker Academy training with last year’s winner Rick Fuller, and more.

Tournament host Planet Hollywood will also promote the “Suck Out Sarcoma” campaign during its Phamous Poker Series Goliath: May 31-July 5, 2015. The “Suck Out Sarcoma” campaign encourages poker tournament players to donate 1% of their winnings to The T.J. Martell Foundation. All funds will go to the Chad Brown Memorial Poker Tournament Fund for Sarcoma Research.
