Players have cleared the tournament area for a 90 minute dinner break; the unusually long period is designed to accommodate the hordes overwhelming the nearby establishments. It is unconscionably bright outside to be grinding a poker tournament, but something tells us everyone will be back to fight for their piece of this huge prizepool.

While final official numbers are not yet in at least 491 players have entered the event, making for the largest field in LAPT history of this sized, $2,500 USD, buy-in.

LAPT Season 6 Player of the Year leader Leo Fernandez has amassed over 75,000 chips, knocking on the chip lead.

Once antes were introduced the pace of play became, in a word, brisk. Three-hundred and eighteen players will resume post-dinner occupying only the main tournament area.

The upstairs tables dispensed with for the main event, now instead in use for Event 3, a $500 turbo freezeout, also well-populated. At risk of premature olfaction, this season’s finale already reeks of success.

In the past hour a particularly gruesome went down on Table 3 which had everyone talking. Nicolás Cottin Buracchio moved all in on a Q♥ 9♥ 9♣ 6♦ board with 9♦ 7♦ , a strong hand to be sure. But he was snap-called by Q♣ Q♦ . No te preoccupes (don’t you worry), it was the 9â™  on the river, drawing media-types to the table like hungry dogs smelling takeout leftovers.

The ante’s size has as much to do with the eliminations as the ante itself. Level 5 and 6 both had a particularly large ante in relation to the big blind, one-sixth and three-eighths respectively. That might not sound like much but in no-limit hold’em pots have a way of spiraling out of control.

The ante will let up by Level 9, shifting to a one-tenth ratio, offering the discerning player an opportunity for profitable adjustments.

Meanwhile PokerStars Pro Angel Guillén ‘s day has not been going swimmingly, having bluffed a considerable portion of his stack, 8,500 on a K♥ 10♦ 9â™  A♥ Q♦ board only to be looked up by A♦ J♣ . He was crippled in the hand but has since stuck with it, plying the short stack.

A rivalry is budding on Table 3 between Humberto Brenes and Pedro Cavalieri, who both have a lot of chips. When the old guard’s under the gun open was squeezed by the young gun, some ribbing would accompany the former’s fold. Everyone at the table is eyeing the murderer’s corner of Brenes, Cavalieri, and Andre Akkari, like a powder keg with a lit fuse.

PokerStars Pros at dinner:

Nacho Barbero: 37,500
Andre Akkari: 20,400
Humberto Brenes: 54,500
Angel Guillén: 4,150
Christian de León: MIA – presumed busted

Players will return for four more levels after dinner break — they are making players earn a Day 2 return!
